Posted - Apr 30 2010 : 09:27:43 AM At Riley Childrens Hospital they have little pillows shaped like an H. They use them ti simulate a hand on the baby to soothe it. My littlest had to spend 6 weeks there when she was first born. They have to special order those little pillows for sanitary reasons, so you can't take them home. After 3 nights of screaming I set down and hand sewed a rice one for my baby. It worked wonders! She still uses it 16 months later whenever her tummy hurts. She wants it laid across her little belly so she can sleep.

Posted - Apr 30 2010 : 05:56:38 AM I make those rice pillows for my store. And the Mothers just love them!! They wanted them a little gigger thn a sock, so I made little pillows. They heat them and put them either next to a baby in a car seat or a toddler likes to hug them. It helps keep them warm in winter in the car.

Posted - Apr 29 2010 : 11:46:17 PM I second the heating pad idea. It's just so much cozier than an electric one. Nothing soothes tense shoulders like my "rice pillow" and a cup of tea.

Posted - Mar 20 2010 : 07:01:48 AM Not quite as exciting, but all those absorbant packages you get when you buy electronics are worth keeping for just such a thing. Put in bag with wet item and it takes away the moisture.

Posted - Feb 26 2010 : 4:40:13 PM When I had my daughter the hospital sent me home with one of those a volunteer made (all new moms got one). We still all use it. They put the rice in a sock, then sewed up a cover from flannel. Better than any electric one!

Posted - Feb 26 2010 : 12:39:02 PM Great tips! Another one is a heating pad. Take an old sock and put a cup of rice in it and microwave for a few minutes. It stays warm for a very long time.

Posted - Feb 26 2010 : 08:42:23 AM i another cool use i just found out--- if your cell phone gets wet, immediately take it apart battery, sim card, etc. and place all in a bag of rice and close. leave for 12-24hrs. then take out. the rice absorbs the moisture and prevents battery from corroding. this happened to my friend, she still had to take the phone to the phone place for a new battery but she didn't need to buy a new phone.
