A plumber friend said people have more problems with clogged washer drains if they use powdered detergent vs liquid, since the powdered detergent doesnt always disolve and thus can coat the drains.

Also found years ago that the makers of soaps etc want you to use more since you then buy more. So I tried cutting the amount I use to 1/2 of what they suggested and it still got the items clean.

Also, taking and putting some liquird detergent on the most soiled area and then spot washing, helps save on detergent as well, since it gets the area clean, so you dont need to add more detergent to the wash when you do a load. A little does go a long way.
