Posted - Dec 07 2008 : 9:49:33 PM Ok, this is tooo cute, I was purrusing through an old (1948) booklet called "1003 Household Hints & Work Savers" and some of the hints are, well old fashioned but cute & others just make such great sence. So here is a tip(Tip#267) to keep your colthes pins from freezing, goodness knows we all like to hang our clothes out on the clothes line in the dead of Winter!!!!
" Wash clothespins in a salt-water solution before using. They will last longer and not freeze on the clothes when there's ice in the air."

Posted - May 21 2010 : 8:44:10 PM I had a friend who hung her clothes out to dry in summer or winter. If you live in an arid climate the clothes will dry quickly even in winter. Don't know how it is for those down south or on the coasts. Smiles! Carla

Posted - May 21 2010 : 08:30:06 AM I've never heard of anyone line drying their clothes when in the winter but I'm up for trying anything that will lower my power bill. |

Posted - Mar 12 2009 : 04:20:01 AM Freeze drying is also supposed to really soften the clothes. I don't think I would spend the time to wash my clothes pins though. My clothes go outside when it is above freezeing.

Posted - Mar 11 2009 : 3:53:14 PM I hang my clothes outside during winter and let them freeze dry! freezing takes the water out of them really quick and then I bring them and put stuff on hangers or a free-sanding clothes dryer for another day and everything's dry. Things really only come back inside a little damp. I was really surprised when I tried this the first time! |

Posted - Jan 29 2009 : 10:22:06 PM Rhonda, what about using a pair of knit gloves inside those rubber gloves that some women use for washing dishes. Just an idea to keep your fingers warm, yet dry from the wet clothes.

Posted - Jan 29 2009 : 8:24:58 PM My clothes are hanging out right now in the 26 degree weather. What I really need to figure out is how to keep my hands from freezing when I am hanging wet clothes in the freezing cold. :)

Posted - Jan 29 2009 : 7:31:01 PM I have been known to have my clothespin freeze with the onset of winter. lol I don't realize how cold it is supposed to be and I hang them out. Sure enough, they freeze stiff right there on the lines. I don't know if I want to make a habit of frozen clothes, but in those frozen days when I don't realize it, this would be just the thing..:) Hugs
