Posted - Jul 19 2008 : 06:21:34 AM I had terrible, terrible heartburn last night (and I can't for the life of me figure out why, I hadn't eaten anything!). Justin was working and had the car, and luck of all luck, we didn't have a rolaid or any antacids in the house.
So I went next door to my older neighbor's house to see if she had any (she didn't) but she told me to take a tsp. of baking soda and a little water, mix it, drink it and I'd be right as rain--that's what she uses.
She was right on--it actually works quicker than any other antacid I've tried, and I wasn't at all bothered by taste.

Posted - Jul 19 2008 : 5:49:41 PM I haven't tried the baking soda method, but a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of ice cold water always does the trick for us. My husband is still amazed by its immediate results.

Posted - Jul 19 2008 : 09:59:11 AM My hubby is on the verge of a hiatal hernia and his heartburn/acid reflux gets so bad sometimes. I keep a box of baking soda around for cleaning or for helping his bouts. It works great except he burps all night. Nanna used to do the same thing.

Posted - Jul 19 2008 : 07:21:19 AM I figured some of you already knew about it--I'm just sorry I didn't before! I get heartburn frequently, and then find that we don't have anything in the house, so I'm really happy that I'll have stuff on hand from now on!

Posted - Jul 19 2008 : 07:08:53 AM My mom always gave us baking soda and water when we had upset tummies. It was the "magic potion" that always worked like a charm. :) Glad it worked for you so quickly!!

Posted - Jul 19 2008 : 06:58:51 AM Jonni, My husband has used this for years, nothing else works for him. I've tried it myself when I'm desperate (I don't care for the taste, even though there isn't much of one). Glad it worked for you! |
