I love the smell of clothes after they have been on the clothes line! They smell of outside!

Here is a tip for those of you who do not like the stiff feeling that laundry gets when it is hung on the line. After your laundry has dried on the clothes line, put the laundry in the dyer for 5 - 10 minutes. This will 'fluff up' you laundry a bit making it less stiff and it will also kill any bugs that might have crawled in your laundry.

I like the stiffness of my bath towels off the line because I feel like I'm giving myself a body exfoliating treatment.

I add the one cup plain vinegar to the rinse water and this removes any soap or detergent residue, which can make clothes stiffer when air/line dried. And my Mom taught me to snap or shake the item before I pin it to the clothesline. It seems to help relax the fibers so the water evaporates faster. LOL Its a physics thing she said.

And I dont wash everything that may simply need refreshing. Instead I run non soiled, but worn a few times, items thru a rinse cycle with the vinegar and the dry. This makes them fresh smelling and clean. Only thing that gets a real wash are panties/briefs, socks, jeans etc. Also discovered if I fill the washer and add the clothes, and then shut the washer off or set for washing later that the soaking helps release the dirt more.

I also use vinegar as a softener! I usually don't put anything in the towels to soften them.

Another good use for white vinegar is for odor remover. When I buy a second-hand shirt, I soak the arm pits of the shirt in white vinegar, in case of any odor that may have been left in the shirt by the previous owner.

I love the stiffness of the towels too, Lisa. It's like an extra little massage after my shower. But my boys like them soft and supple so I toss their linens in the dryer for a fluff!

I use vinegar as a softener, too. It does help, but I have to throw my sheets in the dryer for a few minutes to soften them more. I use flannel sheets year round and they just aren't soft enough otherwise. I do like the "scrubbing action" of the stiffer washcloths and towels though. It's kind of like a derma-massage!

great tip .. the obvious sometimes seems to elude us! i'll surely do this! i sometimes don't put things on the line because i don't like the stiff, scratchy feel of bed linens dried ont he line. ( do like the fresh clean smell though!)
