If you live on acreage--complete with bug life--you would want to have a dog shampoo with some D-limonene, Orange Peel Extract, which naturally repels insets and does a FINE job on lacking coats! Ryan's Pets carries a fantastic shampoo I've used professionally for years (http://www.ryanspet.com/desert-sudz-desert-orange-5-d-limonene-gallon-1-1-pz-DO11800.html). It really smells of o-r-a-n-g-e and can be used as a skin/coat treatment when left on for 20 min at a dilution less than what you would make for shampoo. HONEY is another great addition to shampoo for it's medicinal properties. Always include conditioner after shampoo has been rinsed. If that's a no-go, then use silk serum. YOU are gonna LOVE your dog! |

My daughter is a dog groomer and she uses some dog shampoo she gets in a big bottle and it is concentrated. It is oatmeal and is soothing to their skin. I use it on my horses sometimes too. I'm not sure where she gets it but maybe on ryans pet supply, maybe ryans.com or maybe at petsmart or petco.

This is the ultimate dog shampoo. Will remove any odor including skunk.
Dawn dish detergent
vinegar
baking soda
hydrogen peroxide
petroleum jelly (for use around eyes)
Wet down dog. lather with soap. add baking soda to dog to make a thin paste. add vinegar (will be foamy). add peroxide. let dog stand, if possible for at least 2-3 min. rinse well. This will kill any odor. It was invented by a scientist whose dog was sprayed by a skunk. He broke skunk spray into its chemical components and found the items that would reverse it. It really works. My dog, if he gets loose, will roll in a nearby bears den before comming home. It even works on that.

I don't have a recipe but I just wash my dog with baking soda and rinse with vinegar. I do mix a little essential oils with the vinegar. She has flaky skin and I tried different dog shampoos but she does best with the baking soda. Her coat is shiny and soft.
