Do any of you have a building plan for building a bat house? We would like to get a few on our property. The mosquitoes are absolutely horrible here. I just read that you never want to put one up in a tree. It needs sunlight. No wonder a bat mad his home in an upper window at my brother's house.

Hopefully that works for you. If not, email me and I can email the plans to whomever wants them!

OK. That definitely does NOT work. I'll email it! If anyone else wants it let me know!

Hmm, well, do you know what kind of bats they are? If they are an endangered species, unfortunately there's not much you can do. :( If they're just little browns, you may be able to hire a wildlife relocation company to come in and help relocate them. I'd call your local extension office. :)

I didn't know bats LIKE to sleep in sunlight. We went camping in a state park recently, and every day we marveled at the colony of bats (8-10 of them) sleeping inside the glass-fronted sign case posted outside the camp store. It was extremely amusing...they'd be hanging by one foot from the edges of flyers and brochures. They didn't seem to have any idea that they were fully visible and "on display"...or maybe they just didn't mind. But we couldn't figure out why they'd choose such a bright and sunny spot inside of a dark cave.

Megan, do you know anything about getting rid of bats? We have them in our old bank barn, they like the space between the joists. When we took out the old wood siding and put on metal siding, we screened over every window and tried to seal up every little crack, at night when they were out, with expanding foam insulation in hopes they wouldn't be able to get back in -- but they managed to get back in. How do we relocate them? Maybe they would like a new bat house better. (@Kristina - LOL if you have trouble attracting some to your bat house, please come take mine!) They make a mess.

Kristina, I used to work for a company that did bat surveys. I'll see if they can give me an online one. :)
