I have a bunch of old towels, some with holes. I thought about donating them to the animal shelter, but I just wondering if any of you had any ideas I could do with them.

Sometimes animal shelters will take them for cleaning or bedding.

Also, you could sew one up into a duffel bag for camping or swimming.

How about a kids apron?

Although the pattern calls for a tea towel, I've see them with regular towels too.

Here is a link to a bunch of ideas:

Our rabbits and dogs get the old towels. The dog gets some to dry him off when it is raining or snowing and the rabbits get towels in their hutches, especially in winter, to help insulate them. They do get somewhat chewed up, but we really don't care. When the rabbits are done with them, they are only good for the trashcan

I take mine to the garage, so my husband won't grab my better ones. And old wash clothes for cleaning.

Yeah, an old bath towel could easily be made into a bath time apron with all the kids stuff in it (shampoo, conditioner. bodywash, even a little ducky or two) That way kid stuff doesn't clutter the shower/tub area and it's all localized and with being made out of an old bath towel you can get the little suds that sometimes get into the kid's eyes from splashing in the tub :) I have a towel that I'm waiting for it to get a little more frayed and that is exactly what it will be made into!

I love boo-boo bunnies! They are the best! Plus my kids don't mind icing their bumps because it's fun for them :)

Oooh yay! thank's Megan! That is exactly what I had. I should try and make one. I've been wondering what they were called. :)

Joanna, what you had was what we call a "Boo boo bunny". :) I'll link you to a website that shows you how to make them!

If they are too ratty, you can make coffee cup sleeves out of them to keep from burning your hands. Sew on some rick-rack or ruffles and you're ready to go =) I've seen cute slippers made out of old towels. A couple of years ago, I made some new wool sock bottoms out of towels material, since I wear the bottoms off of my wool socks so fast.

When I was little someone made me a little bunny out of a towel. If i find it I will upload a picture of it. I just moved ( to Alaska!) however, so I am not exactly sure where it is. Or if I still have it anymore. But it was very cute. It had a little Easter Egg in it for Easter. I treasured it. And when we were moving my dad used old wash clothes and towels to keep our stuff from getting rope marks on them. He would put them under the rope.

Just yesterday I took an old hand towel and cut it in half then made rice bags for my husband. He fell and hurt his knee and he had 1 for the front and 1 for the back. Perfect size! I use them by the outside faucets for a quick hand dryer. I like all the other ideas too! What clever gals we have here!

I have a serger so I cut them up serge the edges and I have dish cloths or wash clothes. If the edges are just worn but without holes in the towel I serge the edges and Keep reusing the towel to get a little more use out of them. I can't tell you how many towels I have extended the use of by serging the edges.

Grace, yes! I use old towels for makin aprons too. If the towel is too worn to make the half apron, I take the largest piece of undamaged towel, and make pockets on the apron skirt. Big floppy pockets, so I can grab and wipe on the run!

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

don't forget, as an 1/2 apron, just add a waist band & sash/ties...
also make great childrens playtime activity smocks, just cut armholes & bind and then add velcro or ties for tie clousers.

I always use old towels for rags.

I never seem to have to many rags!

That is a great idea, Carol! I've got an old pair of blue jeans I wanted to make some bibs out of, and doing this will be perfect!

Cool. Thanks everyone, I will give some of those a shot.

I've used as backing on bibs, the pretty side for show and the towel side to wash hands and face. Plus it gives the bibs a little extra weight.

Thank you, for the pot holder idea!

They can be made into potholders. I save bath towels for this. Stack them for "batting", place backing underneath and quilt-n-sew top on, then bind. Sometimes I do 4 at a time with one layout, quilt-n-sew, then cut apart and bind.

Makes great, not too hot potholders.

Ya, I do like the bathmat idea. Thanks.

I usually keep them to use for cleaning rags or grease/sweat rags for my husband to use. The bathmat idea sounds really good!

we have large parrots who tend to get "stuff' on the floor so we use some for floor rags...i am thinking of making myself some thick bathmats by doubling or even tripling a few...i love to step out of the tub/shower onto a clean bathmat!and they are either hard to find in stores or ridiculous in price!

I use them for rags around the house. My church's outreach collects rags and sends them to a group in Africa that makes other stuff out of them.
