My BIL likes to swipe my sisters scrub, but doesn't like the girly scent. Sooo I was thinking I would make him some of his very own for Christmas in unscented, clean scented or a manly scent.

Does anyone have a good recipe or ideas for scents that I can use?

Thanks for the ideas. Sounds simple. The guys in our family should love this!

While it is not the best way to get coconut oil for internal use, WalMart has it in the cooking area here in Texas. It has been in every store I have been in. It is right there by the crisco. I buy my other oils and beeswax and such from Rose Mountain Herbs or Brambleberry Soap Supply.

I've been buying my oils such as coconut oil and shea butter through www.soapcrafters.com Shipping is a bit high so its better to place a larger order instead of several smaller orders or have somebody else order with you and split the shipping costs. I've also found smaller quanities of coconut oil in larger grocery stores such as Meijer and Krogers. You'll pay more per oz/lb but if you don't use it that often or don't need a lot it is an option. I know health food stores in our area carry a lot of oils and essential oils.

I did some looking online last night and many of the recipes I found use some of the harder to find oils- like avacado oil, coconut oil...
Olive oil I have on hand. But if I should want to decide to get more involved in this (and from what I've read on different essential oils, I think I'd really enjoy this new "craft") where is a good place to find these other oils? Do I need to find a gourmet shop, somewhere online or is there a [eeek] chain store that offers them?

I like coconut oil for scrubs. But as Catherine said olive oil can be good too. A wonderful scrub I make is with coffee grounds and hershey cocoa. Just giving you another idea.

Catherine,
What a great idea. I am so excited that I can do this for my hubby. I even have everything. Melanie, thanks for the inspiration.

The easiest way to make a scrub is to mix an oil and sugar together. I like to use olive oil as that is similar to the human skin sebum, but you can use whatever oil you prefer. For the sugar, basic white granulated is fine, but muscavado is the ultimate treat. You can use salt instead of sugar, but it can sting if your skin is at all abraded. Most scents should mix in well with the oil. It will settle, but you just mix it with your fingers when you want to use it. You can get more complicated by using ingredients that emulsify oil and water; these formulations are less oily but more costly and really not necessary.

Sandalwood is a nice musky-ish kinda scent. (Doesn't hurt that aromatherapists say it's an Aphrodisiac too...hehe)
