We just moved into a house and we have a bathroom that has a wood slatted ceiling and walls but it is an orangey wood that I don't care for. The bathroom is also very small with a small window shaded by a huge fig tree, so not much light gets in. I am going to paint all of the wood white and go for a cottage feel.

Does anyone have a white that they have used and really like? I don't want a super white, but I also don't want it to be too beigey.

Thanks!

Hey, Sweets- How are you? It must be redecorating season! lol I'm doing a guest room. My go to white is Behr's Creamy White (W-O-710) Whatever you choose, I know it's going to be beautiful when you're done. :)

My mom wanted an off-white, and she picked "File Cabinet"
(Ugly name but PRETTY on wood!) by Martha Stewart at Home Depot.
She used that color, but had it made into Behr's "Premium Plus",
which has a built-in primer with the paint. Two coats covered
three pieces of wood furniture COMPLETELY, and they started out
in different colors! Less time priming! Saved $$$ too!
Behr paint also holds up really well. Good luck!

I love that color matching! I've used all kinds of "expensive paints" that I've color matched using a less expensive Home Depot paint. And using the BIN primer is an excellent idea. It will keep your white looking white, instead of leaving spots where the orangey wood might show through. And it will mean way fewer coats in the long run. Totally use the BIN.

So I settled on a color-White Dove by Benjamin Moore (but I had it matched at Home Depot because of my budget!)

Also when painting the bathroom it is a good idea to use bathroom paint. It is made to work for the bathroom and the water marks are way easier to get off without scrubbing hard. Also I agree you will have to prime the wood or you won't get the effect you are looking for. There are also primers that are 100% acrylic base latex and these are wash up with water. They work on wood as well. Do your homework and decide what the best way to go is. Have fun.

Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do!

Amy, if the wood is orangey you better prime it first or the orangey varnish and stain will bleed through your white. The best primer for this instance is BIN white tinted shellac. One coat and it dries in less than an hour for painting. You can get it at the local hardware stores. I have painted furniture for over 22 years and have found nothing better. The coat of primer won't look very good but it seals everything in. Read the directions for clean up-it is shellac based which is natural, but needs to be cleaned out of your brush with ammonia.

I like Walmart country white. I think that is what it is called. It does not glare at you.
