I'm looking for a nice but inexpensive coop plan, something that I can build myself and still afford to buy the chickens! I found this tidy a-frame plan...it just needs to be gussied up a little ![](icons/icon_smile_wink.gif)

Posted - Mar 27 2010 : 2:54:48 PM I have three in my coop right now, though it has a smaller footprint than the one in the photo. I would be hesitant to put more in my current coop unless they were out free range all day (which they can't be right now because of raccoon concerns). But you are right - chickens are like potato chips, you can't have just a couple without wanting more. :-)

Posted - Mar 27 2010 : 07:52:04 AM Ok, yeah, I imagine that they are a bit awkward to clean. How many do you have? I'm thinking that I am only going to go for 6 hens. We are only the two of us and this way I can de-shell and freeze some eggs for winter and share with a friend or two. I'm worried that once I start with the chickens, I'll just keep wanting more. I miss my wyandottes that the raccoons got and will definitely be getting more of them.

Posted - Mar 27 2010 : 07:33:58 AM I have an A-frame coop, raised up so they have shelter under it during bad weather. There are pros and cons to this design - it is definitely easier to assemble than a traditional building, but it isn't as easy to clean.

Posted - Mar 26 2010 : 08:49:12 AM Annika, Thank you Muchly for posting that web page. I need a new chicken house and I promised myself I will not buy chicks until they have a new house. I've looked at the plans in magazines (MJF for one) and they are really cool, but this one <that you> posted information about really fits my needs better since I already have materials for it...'left overs' of board lumber, fence posts and corrugated tin. All of those can be found here on the ranch! I would just make it a little larger and taller by extending the dimensions and the height of the door. ~ Shery Jespersen

Posted - Mar 25 2010 : 8:28:58 PM Looks neat! - I wonder how many chickens it would hold? I love it when people can come up with ideas to use what they have or get materials for free or next to nothing - which it sounds like the person in this plan did. Good luck with it!!
