Hi All,
Does anyone have any ideas on how to color eggs naturally? Ive heard of onion peels and such but no idea how to do it? also if anyone has any natural tie-dyeing suggestions I would love to hear them! thanks

I don't see dandelion flowers on here. I have used those to dye eggs. It makes a pretty light yellowish-greenish color depending on how much you use.
These are all great ideas. Thanks for sharing them.

When I dyed eggs with onion skins. We first took a section off of a fern and I wet the egg then put fern leaves on the egg and dropped into a pantyhose toe and tightened it with a twist tie. As long as you can keep the leaves tight against the egg, they turn out beautiful. The egg will have the outline of the leaves.

Let us know how the natural dyes work out. We will be coloring eggs on Saturday for our Nowrooz (Persian New Year on the first day of spring) celebration.

Wow thanks for the great suggestions they were all very helpful! We are coloring eggs this weekend and Im always worried about the nasty chemicals that are in the store bought color kits...you never know what we are consuming!!!!! Also the kids love tie dye so I figure we would have a "colorful" weekend! Thanks again ladies!

A great green that I've used to dye natural fabrics before is liquid chlorophyll. You can get it at health food stores and it's actually a really healthy dietary supplement as well.

My Nana used to put yellow onion peels in the water the eggs were boiling in. They turned an orangish brownish.
Prayer costs nothing, but is worth the most. |

Hi Jennifer, One easy color to come by is beet juice. If you're a gardener/home canner, you may have it on your pantry shelf, but the store-bought variety is good too. The eggs are a lovely dark pink. I think the spice 'turmeric' works for yellow. I tried red onions years back for 'blue' and it didn't work that great...not to mention the odor (onions in hot water). You could GOOGLE your quest and probably come up with more colors. Shery J
