I am so tired of buying things and have the sticky not come off. Any good ideas? I really don't like Goof off and it will tear up clear plastic. And why do they always put his on the place you are going to be using? Why no on the back of the plate?

You could try lighter fluid, too. That has always worked well for me!

As mentioned, Goo-Gone generally does the trick but I try to keep the sticky stuff on whatever I'm trying to remove. Depending on what it is... I either fill it, such as a jar, with really hot water and wait a minute or use my hairdryer to gently heat the label such as on a book. Then, carefully, while the goo is still warm, remove it. One of these owrks most the time.

goo gone is the greatest! I have used it forever and only a tiny bit will get rid of anything I've come across. Great product!

I use the orange stuff, but sometimes alcohol will work pretty good.

Yup goo-gone is great stuff and wd-40 and alcohol. And yes the hand sanitizer is great for cleaning white boards.

Rubbing alcohol.....works on glass wonderfully, and alot of plastics..and won't ruin the items...

Goo gone is awesome!

I have a book about how to care for books (ironic, no?) that says that a hairdryer can heat up stickers enough to peel them off all the way the first time and that a little rubbing alcohol can also take off sticky residue.

I've also found that if you have fingernails and patience and steady hands, you can often VERY slowly pull stickers off pretty well the first time without ripping them or just getting the paper and leaving the goo behind. If your sticker is on a slick surface, that is. A paper substance I'd try the hair dryer trick and fabric, too.

Lighter fluid works well. When I worked in a bookstore, we put a dab on a tissue and wiped off the sticky residue left by price tags.

I use simple green. just put on label, let set and then wipe off. I'll try all the other tips, too. then I won't have to buy simple green anymore.

Warm salty water works, if you can soak the item in it. I did this with a jar label last night. That's how we get paper labels off wine bottles, so we can re-use the bottles to make our own wine.

I've had luck with just soaking the sticker with water for a while. This even worked with a book, I put a wet washcloth on the sticker for a bit, came back later and used the washcloth to wipe the darn thing right off!

Try baby oil. It's worked many times for me.

I use vinegar, or on really sticky stuff, try a dab of hand sanitizer (which also totally erases white board marker residue)

Nail polish remover works really well to remove sticky stuff. just don't let it sit on anything too long (more than a minute or two).
Good Luck

paint thinner works well (same idea as lamp oil) so does nail polish remover if your sticker is on a non food item.

When I worked in a gift shop, we always used lamp oil. Saturate the sticky and sit for a few seconds and wipe off.

A baking soda paste is what I use. It scrubs the sticky and is gentle enough to use on glass.
