I had an "old" tv cabinet, I bought it through a 2nd hand site here in the area. It was cheap 
here is the before pic.
Full front view. This was the in between sanding phase!
It was originally a medium dark solid oak, took a lot of sandpaper!
Finished it this morning!

As you can see I did a bit of distressing too.
I LOVE IT, don't you??
Now onto my next project: my kitchen hutch!
Going to do it in this same style too.

I love it! Especially love the rose pull! Great job!
My husband gets so irritated at me because I paint everything white. But it's the best color to showcase pink. Although some things I do in black.

Excellent transformation, it really looks lovely. I love the rose knob too, we forget how these little touches really add some oomph to our furniture.And nothing feels better than getting a bargaain piece and turning it into a treasure.

Step by step??
Wow that is hard but I will try:
1) First step ofcourse is sanding. I didn't use an electric sander because I had to do it indoors, in my hallway LOL. So I did it all by hand. Lot's of elbow grease there.
2) Then clean all the sanding dust away.
3) Paint the first layer and let it dry completely.
4) Then add the 2nd layer, and if needed a 3rd. BUT no thick layers, just thin ones and sand in between. Mine only needed the 2 layers :)
5) Sand parts where you want the wear and tear look. I only did the door and the sides, plus the rim of the top and bottom.
6) Take some good ANTIQUING paint. I used PLAID, because I do all my decorative painting with PLAID, it really is my fave. Take any color you like, I used a shade called something like : "Apple Brown"??
7) Take a small brush and just add the paint to the sanded parts, and wipe it off again. Yes wipe it off again, it will leave just enough paint to get the desired look.
8) Do this wherever you want that distressed look. I also did it around the rim and some on the side. You can also use it with an almost dry brush on parts where you didn't sand, then it will get the slightly "dirty" look :)
9) I added just a tiny touch of regular PINK Plaid paint to a few parts of the door. NOT much but just to get that little Pink in it I wanted.
10) Et voila, ready!!
Hope this explained it good enough.
I would say just go ahead and try. It is only paint and you can do it again if you don't like it :)

Dutchy, it's adorable! You did a great job. Thumbing through magazines at the store the other day I saw a big TV cabinet (or whatever you call the BIG ones with a huge space in the middle for the TV and shelves on either side). Anyway, they had made it over into a laundry room organizer. They put a bar where the TV space is for hanging clothes on hangers, hamper baskets for hampers on the shelves, supplies in the doors, etc. It's got me thinking about reusing mine instead of freecycling it. Saves the pain of having to move it.
