Posted - Sep 20 2005 : 7:03:03 PM I saw this little blurb in the weekend paper... and it struck a chord with me and tickled my fancy! Really more like little cottages, the options range from bare bones to some pretty nice little spaces. I just love these designs... and you can order plans to build them yourself and save a alot. Prebuilt they start at $15K for the smallest, up to $39K for the 500 sq ft home. Plans are $480 for us do-it-yourselfer farmgirl types! Oh, to dream of my own little getaway cottage... this might be doable!

Posted - Sep 29 2005 : 10:24:58 AM Oh my gosh! How cute are those houses? The Vardo reminded me of a gypsy wagon my grandmother had in her barn. It was painted turquoise (her favorite color) and had 4 little steps leading up to an arched front door. The sides opened up and would hook on the top. She was the coordinator for the Merrimac (Mass) Christmas parade, and this wagon was decorated and paraded in many different guises. We used to play in it when we were kids. Maybe that is why I have such a love for tiny homes. It's like a pull on my heart when I see them. And maybe it is why there is a tiny brownstone built into my living room wall, complete with a sitting porch and teeny-tiny food in the kitchen ! Now to save up for the plans!! |

Posted - Sep 23 2005 : 12:03:41 AM They look like Gypsy wagons, goats tired around here and there, lanterns hanging from corners, gypsy curtains flappin in the breeze, wind chimes. I think I was either a gypsy or pirate in another life.hehe shirley in oly |

Posted - Sep 21 2005 : 12:13:11 PM Hi KathyA.!!! When I travel with my Vardo out west I will come and visit you! I just need to find a dependable and strong work horse or two to pull my wagon...won't be able to afford the gas burner! A grass burner is lookin pretty good these days!

Posted - Sep 21 2005 : 10:30:21 AM Oh Clare, I love, love these! I want the "vardo" shephard wagon to travel the country in when I am blue haired and braless wearing long cotton flowered dresses and tons of turquoise jewelry and red lipstick. I will stop in parks and fairs and festivals and spin tales of the old ways ( not sure what those are) and do collage art and altered books for income. I will put pots of pink geraniums around the stoop when I am parked and have a pet parrot that sings songs like "Happy trails to you...until we meet again..." The other little houses remind me of the "cabinettes" of the 20's and 30's used for motor motels... Would like the steel one for a fishing cabin by a peaceful lake.
If I keep a green bough in my heart, the singing bird will come. |

Posted - Sep 21 2005 : 04:25:58 AM I saw this on HGTV about a month ago but hadn't thought of another use until just now. These portable, rolling structures would be great if you were purchasing land and needed a place to work from as you build your dream house (on vacations and weekends). You'd have a snug place to work from that you could later convert it to an office, studio, workshop what ever your heart desires!Pretty nifty!

Posted - Sep 20 2005 : 9:46:05 PM Clare: I love this website!!! A stone path leading up to one of these in the backyard...surrounded by flowers Maybe a birdbath out front and a tinkling windchime hanging on the porch. A little escape from the ordinary. A place to be creative. Sounds wonderful to me.
