Hey Farmgirls - my hubby's b-day is Sept 3 and I want to get him a router - Milwaukee 3 1/2 Max HP Fixed Base Production Router - you can see it on the home depot site.

Do I need to buy a router table as well?

I have to make the trip quick when I go b/c my back is still none to happy about sitting in a car or standing on hard surfaces, so I'm trying to do the research first.

No, you don't have to. I bought my DH one last year and he works with his on one of the tables in our garage. A router table is nice, but I think they are only neccessary if your hubby wants to do a lot of projects and doesn't have any other tables to work on. Hope this helps!
