I'm in love with straw bale building and want to make my own straw bale cottage on day soon. I am thinking of building a straw bale work shop and maybe a meditation space, just to see how it works. Any one else ever try it or have interest/information?

I love how cozy it looks...just curious

I had heard it called rammed earth.

I have seen articles about this and shows, it is a wonderful idea. They built on an Indian reservation and left a window so you could see the straw. After the stucco is put over it, you can not tell it is made of straw. There are also homes made of rammed earth, if you go to some of the greener sites you will find plans and all types of information. Good luck.

I've been inside one and loved how it felt. I love hand-made houses. I want to hand-make my own if I'm 65 and doing it , I don't care :P I'm interested in cob too, very fun to muck about in...I told you I was a messy mud hen LOL. I've got several books on Amazon about building in alternate materials, I love the idea!

I haven't ever tried it, but saw a wonderful program about it on Discovery one day. It is amazing how "green" it is! I really really want to build my house that way if I get the choice! I will look up some links for straw bale building info for you Annika!
