Posted - May 21 2025 : 1:21:07 PM This morning my sister, Betty, and I went to her grand-daughter's farm for breakfast and to see all their crops and livestock. She, her husband, and 11-year-old triplets live on a ten-acre farm in a small town on the outskirts of Paris. Wow was I ever impressed. He has planted apple, fig, cherry, Mamaw trees, blackberry bushes, strawberries, and raspberries. I don't remember all the different kinds of tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, and radishes in raised beds. He showed me a plant he is growing from the Philippines, don't remember the local name but it's also known as water spinach. He likes to try new things in his garden. He said, "he may only plant it once, but he wanted to give it a try".
London my great great niece has an herb garden and she dries them to make teas. Along with her two brothers they take care of 40 chickens and sale the eggs. I bought two dozen un-washed eggs so they can stay on my counter for a month before putting them in the fridge. The chickens free range along with 3 goats and 10 sheep. Found out their sheep have hair and not wool. Never knew about hairy sheep.
One of the boys showed me a deer head with antlers that he shot and the remote-control car he built. His brother shot a large bullfrog and cooked the legs. Earlier he caught a fish and cleaned and cooked it. My great niece homeschools the kids and they are so smart. Book smart, up on all the electronics and games, and they all have common sense and a love for farm life.
