Posted - Jan 17 2025 : 08:41:51 AM Today I am planting 3 bunches of red onion sets in my large raised galvanized tub. One bunch down - two to go. Seems to me that the bunches are smaller than they were a couple of years ago and cost more.

Posted - Apr 12 2025 : 5:47:26 PM Thank you Sara! The companies are working so hard! I think all but the most outlying homes should be restored by Monday. Then cell/internet restoration will be targeted.
When asked “How are you?”, I reply, “Better than good!” |

Posted - Apr 11 2025 : 11:29:52 AM Am enjoying “catching up” on the events here with you! Our town here in N MI is one affected by the severe ice storm. Electricity still not connected back to many homes (over 10 days) and cleanup crews & linemen everywhere. Today though it is in the 40s and sunny!

Posted - Apr 11 2025 : 09:09:23 AM Finished planting the herbs this morning. Will have to get more potting soil before planting the flowers. The potting soil should be here by Wed so I will have to keep a close eye on the flowers to make sure they are moist and out of the wind.

Posted - Apr 11 2025 : 03:31:39 AM I have been waiting and checking to see if things are starting to come up this spring, so far not much. We have been cold, so I guess things are not waking up yet. I do have some seedlings up, that I started in the house. Enjoy your flowers everyone.

Posted - Apr 08 2025 : 2:10:14 PM Connie, do you remember the old white irises called flags that grew along creek banks and in roadside ditches? Haven't seen them in decades.

Posted - Apr 08 2025 : 1:54:18 PM Aww Sara, my Granny had purple iris too.I still have a few bulbs that I dug up and brought with me when I moved to the country 38 years ago. My Nasturtium seeds are up! Thinning always scares me! Great idea using the small scissors. Connie Sue |

Posted - Apr 08 2025 : 1:48:53 PM My grandmother's purple irises are starting to bud out and all 10 gladioluses are now up. Zinnas in 3 raised tubs are up but only an inch high. I'll have to thin them out in a couple of days. I hate thinning cause I am always afraid I'll take out the healthy ones and leave the weaker seedlings. I use a pair of old embroidery scissors to thin.

Posted - Mar 23 2025 : 11:01:56 AM Connie I read somewhere that if you plant garlic with your bulbs the moles will leave them alone.

Posted - Mar 23 2025 : 10:56:03 AM Tara,I love to grow onions! Pull them up and wash them while my skillet of cornbread is in the oven!
Sara, I love Gladiolus ! I had them, all colors thanks to my neighbor! when I was a young wife and mother in the city. I thought they only grew in hothouses untill I saw them growing out of the ground at my neighbors. She got so tickled at me thinking that. She said, They grow in the dirt either place! I was only 20 years old! Here in the country, I gave up,the moles ate them year after year! I may try again! Connie Sue

Posted - Mar 20 2025 : 09:38:54 AM I have onions planted in basic potting soil from a big box shop. I added some pellet fertilizer. I know onions are heavy feeders. Should I also give them a water soluble fertilizer?

Posted - Mar 18 2025 : 3:21:41 PM Yay! For your potatoes leafing!I love Boston Ferns. I lost quite a bit from those hard freezes. I lost my miniature wisteria. I'm hoping k see some green emerge from the ground soon. Connie |

Posted - Mar 18 2025 : 11:05:01 AM I lost all my garlic to hard freezes and the red onions may or may not make it. On the upside after I rework the garlic raised beds, I will plant 10 gladiolus bulbs in one and possibly basil in the other.
Since our nights will be no lower than 40s I moved my bay plant outdoors on the back deck. I pruned the bay back to keep it at a size I can move in & out. I gave the cuttings to the man who worked on my house. The only outside herb that survived the freezes is my sage plant. Will have to replace the rosemary and Greek oregano.
Of the 4 red potatoes I planted in the potato bag two of them are showing green leaves.
I bought two Boston ferns that are on my front porch. Starting to look like spring around here.
