My big pumpkin is getting so big that the stem is starting to break. I haven't ever had a pumpkin this big so I am not sure what to do. How do I brace this pumpkin so it doesn't break and fall off?

A bra?! Farmgirls are certainly creative people! Reusing an old bra would be a great idea! It might last even longer than the panty hose because it is better made than panty hose. Plus panty hose are synthetic oil-based material whereas bras are usually made from cotton.

Michele, that is the funniest thing I have heard!

Winnie, I haven't done anything yet sadly. I have searched my house and can't find any panty hose. I hate wearing them, but thought I may have an old pair stashed somewhere. So I am thinking I will go out and make a sling with bailing twine. That is my plan for tonight once my husband is off work and can lend a hand.

Wow Krista! Your pumpkin is getting huge. What did you finally do to support it on the vine? It was in a precarious position.

I saw a picture somewhere, they used a bra to put their pumpkins or squash in that were growing on a fence. Funniest thing to see.

I hope it works for you. That's a wonderful pumpkin!

Thanks Sara and Connie. I will have to find some panty hose now.

Krista, it's beautiful! I read about the same method Sara posted.

Krista, I have read articles on making slings out of panty hose to support large vegetables. The panty hose can be attached to the trellis.
