Posted - May 22 2024 : 11:00:15 AM I usually around the perimeter of our house just to make sure everything is OK. I also check on my praying mantis cocoons. Needless to say we have in the past had hornets – wasp nests Under the eaves of the roof. And we knocked them down as soon as possible. Well today, today and mind you it’s only been maybe one or two weeks, I spotted this nest… I have never seen one like this before. I suspect it probably is some kind of wasp, now I’m going to go google it. I hate stinging insects. If you know what it is, let me know. As soon as I find out, I will repost back here to share with you all.

Posted - May 22 2024 : 6:25:17 PM Well,, guess who got bit/stung, by a wasp today… Yep! I walked out to my garden and moved a bag of pearlite over, I didn’t realize there was a wasp sitting on the bag sipping water. And oh yeah, he stung me. On my thumb. Now I have a very puffy thumb, I used hydrogen peroxide on it, made sure the stinger was out, it bled a bit, and then I put a cold compress on it. I might end up using some Cortizone to stop the itching if it doesn’t go away in the next hour or two. Yep, it’s garden season ,,, watch out for those Hornets, wasps and other biting insects.

Posted - May 22 2024 : 2:00:43 PM Depending on the kind of wasp they can be nasty beasts but this kind you got to admire their workmanship. I'm with you Grace, don't want any wasp around kiddos.

Posted - May 22 2024 : 1:32:11 PM We usually have the wasp nests, the ones with the multiple holes.. this is a first for us to find on the back side of the house or anywhere on the property for that matter.
We constantly check the barns and around the house,,, and have never had one of these. Hubby made short work of it.. only one hornet emerged as hubby sprayed the nest,, and was able to soak the hornet and kill it. The hornet was quit large... The last thing I want is for us or our grand-kiddos to get stung!

Posted - May 22 2024 : 12:53:59 PM Wow Grace, that is scary. That's a new nest to me. The ones I usually see have a bunch of different holes. Stay safe from those crazy hornets.
