Grasshoppers!!! UUGH! Death to them All!!!
they have appeared out of no-where and are devouring my Gladiolas and are hanging out in my Roses too!
Where is a bug eating bird when you need one!?!?!?

Well here it is, a month later and those dawgone Hoppers are not only still around,, but getting bigger... I almost feel like I am in a Si-Fi movie!,, Not as bad as what Sara experienced,, but yuck just the same!
I cant walk through my garden, nor prune my roses or Glads with out getting attack by the Hoppers... Where is a Mocking Bird when you need one???

Oh Sara,,,. ewwww eek! they are creepy and I hate it when they spew that black juice when I catch them in my hands ... I have (thank goodness) had to deal with swarms..
I do not use pesticides of any type,, I try to find what attacks them and then remove the plants or pick, toss and squish! LOL!

I have heard cornmeal works but have never tried it. Theory is the grasshoppers eat the cornmeal and it swells in their bodies killing them.
I know mockingbirds will eat grasshoppers. Twenty something years ago we had a plaque of grasshoppers. There were so many that it looked like the ground was moving. They ate everything in sight including door & window screens. One evening I got caught out on a country road when I ran into a swarm of grasshoppers. I had to use my windshield wipers to see how to drive. The deeper I got into the swarm the road became slippery just like I was driving on oil or ice. I was so happy when I left that swarm behind me.

Aeeful! Hate the little pests!! Ducks perhaps or chickens freeranging Grace? I've never had to deal with grasshoppers. Let me research...I'm so sorry

Oh Grace, that is terrible!! Grasshoppers are devastating to everything in their path. I have no idea what to suggest but I hope something happens soon to get rid of them!
