For the second year in a row my garden is overrun with morning glories. It seems that grow over night and cover EVERYTHING even worse than Kudzu does here in the south in the woods!
Husband wonders if there is something in the bunny feed (I put most of my bunny compost in the garden) that could be causing this....
I wonder if they are simply in the ground and are just almost impossible to get rid of...
If we ever have a rainy "spell" then they grow like crazy and by the time I get back in the garden it's almost impossible to get rid of them all....and they grow to cover tomato plants and everything else....
anyone else have this problem? what do you do? I've tried covering whole areas with plastic and letting the sun bake it for several weeks before planting time last year and that didn't help.

Did you know that Morning Glories are illegal to plant in AZ? They are considred a noxious weed that takes over everything and cuts out the feed for livestock.
They sure are pretty though!

Morning Glories & Bind weed are part of the sweetpotatoe family, maybe these are left overs from a sweet potatoe crop? my mom has Bind weed in her yard & the flowers are a dark purple & tiny. not the big trumpet shaped flowers associated w/ morning Glories. |

Most of the flowers are purple.....
I will try to vinegar and I will definately try the vinegar and black plastic throughout the winter and until planting time next spring!

I am guessing it is bindweed too. Overwinter if it is a food garden and can be covered spray the ground with distilled white vinegar and cover it with black plastic sheeting smothering everything. You have to weight it down to keep it dark. I have used pallets. In Spring when it is time to plant. turn the soil with a shovel not a tiller removing all of the roots that you find remaining if you use a tiller you chop up the roots and they can regrow from a very small piece.. You should have a fairly weed free garden. Then if you see any start up again, take a spray bottle of vinegar and a large juice can that is open on both ends. Place the can around the baby plant and spray with vinegar. the can is to protect the nearby plants from the overspray so be sure the nozel is in the can when you spray. I do this to blackberries in the wrong place also. Lift the can off and move to the next one.
