I couldn't believe my eyes, when I went to check out some raised beds that know how to much weeding that needed to be done & what did my wondering eyes did see....volunteer SUNFLOWERS poking up where we had them plated last year.
I'm going to transplant a couple to balance out the other bed next to it. Hopefully they won't freeze. We are having a spring tease here.
One day sunshine, next day rainy.
What's coming up in your yards.

Blessings,

Last year, I found 8 - 10 volunteer hollyhocks scattered here and there in the area of the farmhouse. That was a major thrill for me, because I've had a hard time getting my 'transplanted from the city yard' hollyhocks to get settled in at the farm.

In one of my bird feeders, I use nothing but black oil sunflower seeds. And every spring I must have hundreds of volunteer sunflowers coming up underneath it. Last year, I just mowed around it and had lovely sunflower seeds but they were so thick they didn't grow much. I should have thinned them out and they probably would have grown better.

May God bless those who love the soil,

Patsy

Volunteers are always a surprise, and make me smile. I have tons of calendula's that come up, and I used to pull them out like weeds. This year I will dry a bunch. Michele
