Now that it is getting warmer, I'm cleaning the ashes out of the woodstove. Is there any way I can use these, gardening-wise? I hate to toss them all if I can use them for something.

You can sprinkle wood ash around your lettuce and spinach plants to keep the slugs away. It worked for us!

This isn't really for gardening, but here is what we do with them. Our driveway is very long-and this time of year the snow around it is melting during the day, but the water that hasn't drained yet freezes up during the night-same thing with cold days after a few warm ones. So, we spread the ashes on the driveway-makes the ice melt quicker and gives the vehicles some traction. We just don't put it up near the house-might get tracked in.

WE sprinkle around out Hydrengeas and always get the MOST beautiful mix of color right on the same bush! The color or your hydrengeas depends on the alkalinity of the soil. The always look wonderful!
I believe they can be added to compost if you haven't used any chemical logs or starter fluids.

Not gardening related, but filtering water through ashes is how you can make lye for soap.

I agree with the "put them on your garden"; my inlaws have been burning wood for 30+ years and they put them on their garden, mil puts some in her flower beds, etc. I forget what they replenish, but they're good for something
