I was planning on getting my tubers for potatoes and sweet potatoes, and looked at Burpee--for my zone (6), I understand that the don't even begin SHIPPING the tubers until May 19....I'm pretty sure I'm reading that correctly...anyway, we went to see family up north today about 2 hours, and I mentioned to my elderly Aunt about getting my tubers when we came back up closer to May. She said, "you'll be too late then--you always put your potatoes in the ground on Good Friday. Dad was sometimes in the garden in the snow!"...So, what's the answer, then? She said the same about peas--if our last frost date is about May 5, I'm just a little confused by it all...AND this happens every year. I over-think it, and then I over process it, and then it becomes overwhelming and it's June before I know it and I'm too scared to make a mistake. Just think of all of the roads there are...all of the things I haven't seen....yet.

Marybeth	Posted - Mar 10 2007 : 8:19:04 PM Plant the potatoes in May depending how wet it is. You do want the ground to be warming up and not soggy or the spuds will rot. You can harvest them later anyway. Peas are cold weather crops and can be planted early. We always used to say plant sweetpeas or green peas on Washingtons birthday. It's too wet here but you can start them in a cold room. Hope this helps. The farmers out here don't even harvest potatoes until October or even later. You can do that with some root crops. LadyCrystal	Posted - Mar 10 2007 : 6:57:18 PM We live in zone 6 too. We usually plant our potatoes at the end of May or the beginning of June. Once the soil warms up.
