Oh, those moonflowers remind me of my mother! She planted them on the west side of the house beside a brick chimney and they thrived, so I am thinking they need a lot of sun and heat (but I don't know for sure...) Are they the same plant as jimsonweed? I saw a lot of it in the Southwest on our honeymoon and it looked similar.

Well, I've never done it, but as an indoor gardener myself, I was thinking about it-- you could plant them in pots which you set in front of a sunny window on the floor. Since they are a vining plant, you could (and this is the labor intensive part) screw an eye hook into the ceiling directly above the pot and string a length of fishing line from the eye hook down to the pot (secure it to the back of the pot) and then you can train the vine up the fishing line. With a row of three or four pots in front of the window, you could probably have a pretty nice natural curtain. I've never tried this so I have no idea if it would actually work, but I really don't see why it wouldn't.

Hi kim,
I have grown Moonflowers out doors only, on a trellis against my house. They are a lovely version of morning glories except that they bloom in the evening and smell delightful. I have never grown them indoors so let me know how it turns out? In my small sitting garden, where my Moonflowers, herbs & tomatos grow, I have a small bistro table w/2 chairs so I can sit out there in the morning w/my tea and in the evening enjoying the scents & catch up on my latest magazine. Gardening is truley a delight to the scenses...

I will! I live in an apartment and would need to grow them inside. I have a very large sunny window. Just need to get a pot and soil. It was a Christmas gift from my aunt.

Kim, do you mean planting indoors as in getting a jump on spring? Or planting the seeds and then growing the plants indoors? If you have a really sunny area with fresh air coming in occasionally I bet you could have a beautiful lush vine to frame around a window perhaps. Other than that environment, I would imagine you could still have beautiful vines but maybe not so many flowers. What a neat experiment! Let us know. Nance |
