my son left my favorite trowel out in the weather for the winter. any ideas how I can make a new handle?

How about this? Get some of that spongy foam that is used for cushions. Cut it in strips and attach it to the handle with some really strong glue. Form it until it feels comfortable in your hand. Wrap it in the best duct tape you can find. Tip: Use the best construction glue available. You don't want the new handle to slip off.

Just an idea.
