I have always bought seeds for BUSH beans but when I bought my seeds last winter for this 2015 season, I failed to read the packet to see if the green beans I selected were "Bush" or "Pole".
I wanted to try different things this year and I bought seeds from a different source.
Sooooo, alas and alack, I learned much too late that the green beans I planted are POLE beans. ARRGGHH! Our garden arrangement is not set up for pole beans. So, I just have to do my best with what we can do. Beans that I've never grown before, I sure hope they are good!
Oh well . . .

I love pole beans! Hopefully they will be happy not growing up the traditional way. Let us know how the harvest turns out.

I bought a packet each of Black Beans and Mexican Reds from Menards this year and although the package "said" they were bush once they took off it was obvious they needed trellis type support. We whipped some sticks and string up last minute and that helped some. They lay over a lot :)

Still got a great crop - I just dry them until such time as I use them later...

Canned 7 quarts yesterday, cooked up a batch to eat and picked more today. Going to give a bag of them to my son's caregiver so they can have fresh green beans at their house, save the rest until the next picking (in about 3 days) and hopefully have enough for another 7 qt. load to can.
They sure are good!

Picked another big batch of the green ones and a smaller batch of the purple ones today. Hope to can them in the day or two!

We grew bush beans and pole beans. Both were good. Both produced a lot of beans. I'll have to get a new freezer if they continue. LOL

Well, I've just finished my second picking of these beans. They are somewhat of a chore to pick but I managed. Silly me!

Oh, Peggy, I'll like the beans, I'm just not looking forward to trying to pick them when they aren't staked up. We'll manage. I picked a big bunch today and will cook some tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing how these taste. I really like the Royal Burgundy Beans . . . which, by the way, are bush beans. :D

Cj and Steph...yes, those bamboo teepees are exactly what I used for my pole beans...but I have even used just natural
sticks from the Forest and roped the tops together. I love pole beans and have never grown bush beans before. I think
you will like them Cj. Not the disaster you thought you had. (+:

Peggy

Yes, I have beans . . and other things. Thankfully, we've had good rains this spring and showers in July and also now in August. Our severe drought situation has had some relief!
