This is the 4th year for this drought here in Central California, and it is really taking it's toll on back yard gardeners as well as the Agri business here in Central CA.,,,
My garden was nearly destroyed from the un expected late frost,,, and now were are in constant 90-100* weather... and with limited watering.
Of the 2doz gerkein plants, I am now down to 5 and only 3 gerkens on them...my melons are down to 6 vines...the strawberries and sunflowers fell pray to the deer...(I have since transplanted the remaining strawberry plants over by the fenced in grape vines)...
SO far only 3 potato plants have survived as well as 3 tomato plants...
I have about a dozen sweet pea vines,,, but they are struggling as are 5 of my remaining purple hiacynths... and only 1 moon flower survived... the ground is so dry that watering evaporates immediately...I have mulched around the plants,, and am trying to do a slow, drip type irrigation... I suspect this year will not be a year to plan on canning unless I buy my produce from the local farmers market...
I guess that means I will have more free time to go Glamping! lol!

Oh well. there is always next year! and hopefully the end of this drought.

I'm so sorry for all of you out there, Gracie! I wish I could send you some of these torrential rains we've been contending with! Feast or famine, right? I remember last winter we watched as Boston was dumping all their snow into the harbor and just feeling a little heartbroken. If only they could've somehow worked out a deal with the drought-stricken areas to truck that snow in to them so they'd have water for the growing season! I know, probably far-fetched, but you'd think there would be SOME way of salvaging the snow for water for those in need! It's like the world is off its axis or something, isn't it? All I can say is mulch mulch mulch and pray pray pray. I'll be praying for you, for sure. I can only imagine how disappointing - and scary - the drought must be! Hang in there, sister! Hugs - Nini
