Posted - May 08 2015 : 2:16:15 PM Recently, my fiance built two raised beds. We planted seeds and seedlings in the first one but have not yet planted anything in the second one. I absolutely love love gardening. Wish I had at least 5 acres. I would plant every veggie and fruit I buy (or try to). My 2 year old Chocolate Lab "Brownie" dug up some seedlings that had just sprouted. And I haven't been able to afford the stuff I need to build a fence around the raised beds yet.....It's really fun though and my kids love it. I want chickens eventually, but a little unsure of how the dogs and the chickens will mix? We live on a decent sized lot, so space is pretty good. But like anything, I could always use more! ![](http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Snitz/Images/2015/05/193.jpg?v 47992471)

Posted - May 09 2015 : 08:36:22 AM Let the dog know that the raised beds are off-limits. Every time she gets into them chase her out saying a firm NO. Give her something else to do in the yard so she won't get bored. Once the plants are established and are at a good size, let her into the garden to "help" you. My dog understands that there are yummy treats in the garden and she keeps the rabbits and birds away. Remember to be consistent and firm about the rules. Everyone in your family must follow the same routine with the dog and say the same words to keep her out. Good luck.
