Posted - Nov 12 2006 : 9:31:10 PM I took a great composting/recycling class. They have a great instructions for building a worm bin. I have built 2 so far. If anyone would like a copy of the handout for building a worm bin and getting it started I would be happy to make copies and send them out. Doing some late fall cleaning and came across it.

Posted - Dec 08 2006 : 3:46:09 PM I adopted one of these from a friend whos'e husband didn't want to fool w/ it anymore.
We keep our bin under the house (it has a dirt floor) I shred newspapers and moisten these about once every 3 weeks-or just fluff the existing paper. Anything comppostable goes into the bin and covered w/ a fresh layer of moist paper . It was a thrill to lift the lid a few weeks ago and see tiny baby worms!
Must be doing somethihng right! |

Posted - Nov 13 2006 : 10:24:20 AM HI Everyone,
Just send me your address and I will get the info out to you. I have never heard of feeding them animal dropping, I will email the woman who ran my class and ask her about that. They just hybernate (sp?) in the winter. When you havevest your bin, less is more when you use it. I usually use 20% worm castings with 80%compost.

Posted - Nov 13 2006 : 09:06:38 AM For those of you who are getting this set of instructions there is a lot of discussion on vermiculture on this site just do a search. Last year I did a photo instruction album with the process of harvesting the great vermiculture after it is finished. If it is no longer available I will be glad to e-mail you a link to the photo instructions after you get your build it instructions. Eileen I found one of the links under apartment composting July 26 2005.

Posted - Nov 13 2006 : 08:50:37 AM can you send me a copy of the worm bin directions. Some people told me they use their rabbit manure to feed worms - I will have to try it |

Posted - Nov 13 2006 : 07:08:36 AM Oh, Laura - I would love a copy - one question, however - what do you do with the worms in the winter? Do they need special care?
XOXO, Libbie
