My peppers are doing awful. My neighbors' peppers aren't doing well either. My Daddy's peppers aren't doing anything either. Is there just something going on that I'm not aware of?
Anyone else from the Mid-West having pepper problems?

Not sure what the green goo issue is, but my three bell peppers did very little this year. In past years I've had lots of peppers. We had one green bell this year and nothing else off three plants and we had flowers all over our tabasco pepper, but never did get one pepper - I chalked it up to a bad pepper year. :(

Okay ladies, I'm having a new problem. And I really have no idea.
Last night I got home from a little weekend vacation. I was gone a day and a half. When i got home I checked my garden and the one big pepper I had, was GROSS. Let me explain, when I went to touch it, it was soggy, like its insides had melted. It even oozed a little green grossness. I'm assuming that this is some kind of pest problem. Still, I really have no idea, and I'm considering calling it a wash, pulling the plants up, and using the container for a fall crop. Any advice would be great. Thank you ladies!

Our roller coaster weather this summer may be part of the problem too. I am getting peppers, but when the cool weather rolls in they slow down a lot. You may want to check the quality of your soil too with a kit from a nursery or home improvement store. I hope you get a bumper crop soon!

hmmm, Ninibini is is spot on, I for sure would sprinkle some Epsom salt around the plants (I do this w/my tomatoes too!)...

my peppers are suffering too. This has happened for the last two years. I nurse them along and then they begin to come back in the fall with cooler nights. I am going to try the Epsom salts idea! Thank you ninibini.

@texdane I have three plants, all bell peppers. One's green, one's purple, and one is yellow. My yellow pepper plant looks no bigger now than when I planted it back in may. I haven't got a single pepper from it. The purple pepper isn't doing much better, but at least it has flowered and I had one pepper from it (before one of the feral cats got to it). The green peppers are doing the best, and by best I mean I've gotten one pepper from it so far and it has one growing on it right now. But that's about it.
So, to answer your question it seems to me that they are just not flowering. My neighbors' peppers have finally picked up a bit, but mine still look sad in comparison to the rest of my garden. Poor peppers...

DaliceMarie, Are they doing poorly in general, not flowering, or just "slow"? Here, everyone I know who has a garden or a farm, the crops are way behind. I do have lots of peppers, and they are looking good, but are behind in typical harvest time.
I'd try the Epsom salts mentioned here, too.

One idea for next year with peppers is to dig the hole, place a small handful of Epson salts in the hole, a skif of dirt and then put in the plant. Also to mix a diluted espon salt with water and sprinkle around the base of the plant only. try to keep off the leaves, it does appear to help get a better pepper crop. I hope it works. ( this is what I do when I remember) good luck

@ninibini, thank you! I'm willing to take any advice. It seems so weird. All my other plants are doing wonderful. But my peppers are just lacking. It's a little frustrating because the pepper plants were some of the ones I was most excited to plant.

DaliceMarie - I don't know why that is happening to you, but I can tell you that I like to apply a sprinkling of epsom salts right to the leaves and ground around the peppers. Apparently, this helps them flower. I just take a hand full and scatter it everywhere just before a rain storm. The results are amazing. Best of luck!
