We had beautiful weather today, 75 and sunny! so my hubby got the garden tilled! It is a start!! It has been years since I had more than a Patio Garden, so I am excited! I got the Earth Machine Backyard compost, I really like it, easy to use and I read great reviews about it for small gardens!

Cinder the Cat said, Ok ,now can we go in and eat! LOL!

Connie, I love your "tipsy pots." I'm learning more things to do with rebar this year. I was just in a friend's gorgeous rose garden last weaken -- she has the real long kind that's a little thinner than I usually see in the stores, and it naturally bends. She uses it to create arbors and all sort os things. I must see if I can do tipsy pots at my place next year. Thanks for all the inspiration!

How are you dealing with deer, or are they not a problem in your area?

I know just what you mean, Connie. I have a small patch where I can grow a few veggies and herbs and it is great to pick fresh and eat for dinner! I only wish we had more space that got enough sun. Looking forward to late September when it will have cooled off enough here to put in a fall garden. Fall gardens don't have the level of pests that the spring and summer ones do which makes me happy!

Debbie, Sorry I just saw this! It is so easy! you get about a 6 foot length of rebarb at the Hardware store. Hammer about 2 feet in the ground and then thread your pots on them one at a time planting as you go!

Sharon, I did make my Tipsy pots, I love them! My tomatoes are doing great! My brother drove over on the tractor to see if there were any ripe ones yet! LOL! The tractor is 1952 and was our Grandfather's. It is still Humming along and works just as good as ever!

Your tomatoes and swiss chard look good. I had my first salad last night with my lettuce and spinach. I have a few small green tomatoes on one of my cherry tomato plants. Things got off to a slow start this year due to the prolonged cold. I still have two pepper plants I need to transplant.

The garden is doing good! After growing mostly in raised beds, and patio pots for years ,I was anxious about a real garden! I wished my Paw-paw could see it, he would have had the biggest grin on his face. He farmed most of his life and was just so tickled when any of the grand kids showed an interest in gardening! Opie decided to join me while I was pulling weedshttp://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Snitz/Images/2014/05/DSCF1193.JPG[/IMG
My Tipsy Pots and raised bed is doing good also! I have Holly Hocks and Glads. and Bush Sunflowers, Zinnias in the raised bed.http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Snitz/Images/2014/05/DSCF1200.JPG" border="0">

Your garden looks so happy and thriving! How sweet that Matt comes along for the garden check with you as well. Kitty companions are just the best! I hope you have a great summer enjoying all of your home grown veggies. You will have to show us some photos along the way as things grow and begin to bear fruit.

I can't wait for that 75 degrees to make it up here! I'm itching to dig in the garden. I started canning with tomatoes and jam too. It makes me feel good when I go to the cupboard and get a jar of something I grew and preserved. I hope you have a great growing season! If I lived closer I would definitely come work for some cupcakes :)

Looks like about the right size Mz Connie. Good luck with your growing season. Yep, down here in the south, we do lots of thing in the late evening just to stay cool. Let us know if you brother leaves you any tomatoes to can.

Hugs and prayers, Daizy

Thanks Peggy, so far Hubby has done the hard work!! I have raised beds too right off the patio, where I grow my kitchen herbs. My neighbors have 7 children ages 5-16. I figured I can pay them in Cupcakes to help me! LOL! I will be out there after the moon comes out in the hot months! My Brother lives behind me, 2 acres away and said, Oh Good, I know where I can come and pick me some free Tomatoes! LOL!
