On the TV news this morning there was a piece on an Arboretum that now has a little area featuring fairy gardens. I have seen them at different plant nurseries the past few years and last summer they had a fairy garden competition at a Renaissance Fair, which was absolutely amazing. I really want to start one myself this year, has anyone here made one or have ideas to share?

Susan, I started with a trio of mini fairy figurines, a door, turtle birdhouse, fairy sized of course!

Betty,
What fairy garden stuff are you starting with?

Montana winters are tough so I made mine in a cobalt blue bird bath. In the summer it is Outside and in the winter it is by my sliding glass door. My daughters are always rearranging the stuff in it and adding glitter or other trinkets to help attract fairies.

I remember my friends dad had a few in their very tiny yard! I tried one back in the day...(5 years ago...) but I so miserably failed. Everything died. I guess the fairies were terrified by my black thumb. :(

Susan! That IS adorable! I would like to do a little one under or beside our antique lilac... Just something a little whimsical and wonderful for my foster granddaughter to enjoy. I think she'd really love it! :) Alanna - those are some great suggestions! :) Hugs - Nini

My girlfriend makes fairy gardens and I simply love them ~ I helped her last summer when we had classes on them... I've seen them done in children's wagon's , or also as part of your landscape.. I'm always looking for small items at garage sales to put in them, seashells, old vintage salt and peppershakers are cute too/ little houses, animals. there are catalogues out there that specialize in really cute accessories such as mini arbors, small tin vintage-looking porch furniture and tables.. Children are so interested in making these fairy gardens... Love this ~

I have a fairy garden that I love. It's always evolving. It sits atop my large planter that also holds my patio umbrella. I got a mini picket fence, mini adirondack chairs and some greenery. Along with some sand and some rocks, it's for beachy fairies. I love sitting on my patio enjoying it.

All children are gifted. Some just open their packages a little later.
