Posted - Feb 18 2014 : 07:53:30 AM Hi Sharlanicky, We use raised beds for a lot of our garden. Here are articles that might be of help. www.organicgardening.about.com Then search raised bed gardening.
From experience I can add these hints. 1.You can alter the soil in different beds to meet the specific plant requirements; more or less acid, adding extra sand or peat moss for plants that need a particular kind of soil. 2.Be sure your beds are strong and level, dirt is heavy! 3.Don't leave gaps around the outside edges or soil will wash out under them. 4.Remember you can get a lot more plants in the same area than planting in rows. Plant them in a grid pattern. 5. Don't make them too wide! 2 feet if you can reach from only one side or 4 feet if you can reach from both sides is plenty so you don't have to crawl in to take care of the plants.
Feel free to contact me if you have specific questions. Happy Gardening! Susan
