Jean from Malden, Washington needs your help saving some bees that have taken residence in their community church.

Here's what's happening:

"This is an honest request from the women's group (Ladies Working Band) at Malden Community Church in Malden, Wa. We have a wall full of honeybees that desperately need to be rescued. We have tried to encourage them to rehive, with no luck. We have contacted bee associations in Spokane, WSU and UI, no luck. I am a Moscow co-op member and I've talked to them... no luck. One man in Tennessee said if we were within 500 miles of him, he would come get them. These bees are healthy and about as organic as it gets. Can you help us?"

If you have any ideas please let us know in the comments or email MaryJanesFarm (Iris@MaryJanesFarm.org)

Last summer I was talking to our commercial apiarist (he keeps extra hives on our property when he is not renting them) and he mentioned a similar situation with a neighbor where the hive had been built inside a house's walls. It sounded like the neighbor thought he ought to not only remove the bees but also remove the honey and honeycomb inside the walls, and do construction work to repair any damaged wood. Don't know if the situation is similar or not, but some beekeepers might be reluctant to come and get the bees if they think there might be an expectation of repair also?

Brian, I'll ask around here today and see if I can find any one to help. I'd love to keep them, but don't have the set up or skills to move them.

Did the WA. state beekeepers offer any help on how to remove them or rehive them?
Have they tried the local media to help them locate some help? I can't believe with the decrease in the honeybee population, they can't get someone to help with their plight?
Wish I lived closer ...

Have they tried the WA state beekeepers association?

I can't believe no one can help you. Here in OH, I can name at least 5 folks that would be jumping in, no problem.
Good Luck. Gotta love our bees.
