Posted - Aug 20 2013 : 07:35:43 AMWhy would cabbages get slimy and smelly then fall off the stem they grow on? I got a few heads doing well against the bugs and then the slim got them? Gonna retry for the fall garden though.
It all comes back to the ground!

Posted - Aug 23 2013 : 12:07:24 PMMix cayenne pepper and flour and sprinkle it on the cabbage. It won't hurt the plant but the buggies don't like them. If slugs are getting to them put cedar mulch (I think) or egg shells around them. Slugs and snails won't crawl over them. I've also been told to put some old beer in a shallow cup and put it in the ground just slightly and the slugs will fall in...they are attracted to the yeast in the beer. I haven't tried that one. I have never liked the smell. Ew.. Hope that this helps. I love cabbage.
