Posted - Jan 29 2013 : 8:18:29 PM A plant also referred to as Wandering Jew Plant. I have tons of them. They are multiplying like crazy. Mine are purple. I've seen some of the plants with silver, white and purple stripes. They like warm temperatures and lots of humidity; perfect for SW Louisiana. I have pots of the Tradescantia pallida in the shade, and they bloom little beautiful violet flowers. I throw cuttings in one of the garden areas; didn't even plant them or dig a hole for them, and they are spreading all over. Does any one else have this plant? Marly

Posted - Jan 30 2013 : 3:08:25 PM Peggy Ann, I never cover the plant in winter. We have had a couple of freezes, but it has never died. The little purple flowers are so cute! The pots I have in the shade only make the flower, and the ones out in the sun never flower. Marly

That's exactly what I was thinking! I've never seen it grown outdoors before - so pretty!

We can get really cold snaps and cold rain...so it doesn't do as well outdoors for us.
I didn't even realize that it was so prolific. Loved your picture and the purple is my favorite.

Posted - Jan 30 2013 : 06:30:15 AM I love this plant. It's refered to as 'Wandering Jew' in these parts, too. It adds a pop of color, spreads fairly quickly and is so easy to grow. I have a few that I started from cuttings from my grandmother's. It makes me feel as though I still have a special piece of my 'Nanny' still with me.
