I started 96 cells of seeds this weekend, and was SO excited to see this lovely broccoli coming out to greet me today! Spring is just around the corner!!! Woohoo!

It's below freezing here too. I started seeds a week or so ago. There up. I am so dreaming of spring, and wanting to get my gourds started.

My "babies" are growing strong! They are several inches tall and finally started filling out. I don't have a greenhouse, so these loveys are in my living room under lights. I had to add more lighting, though, because they were getting leggy. Hoping that fixed the problem.

The thing I love most about gardening is that you are always surprised. I'm no expert, by any means, so it's all trial and error. I love seeing what works, what doesn't, creating alternatives, etc. It's such an amazing process.

I am perusing seed catalogues tonight, dreaming of spring. But we have a couple of months to wait. I usually don't even start my tomatoes until the end of February. Seems ages off! :(

Autumn, I must say I am jealous! I am about an hour north of Indy and we still sometimes get snow through April! Lake effect, I think. I am hoping to be able to use our screened porch as a mini greenhouse in a few weeks - it faces south. DH is going to build some cold frames as well. Good luck to you! I love the little seedlings!

I've never heard of SeedSavers Exchange. It sounds worth checking into...

have you looked at SeedSavers Exchange? I love thier catalog. they have such a big selection and it's full of anecdotes about the different varieits.
one thing i want to try this year is a good paste tomato, i want to get some sauce in the freezer for chili and spaghetti for the winter.

I have been looking thru my organic/heirloom(non gmo) seed catalogs. Just don't have the funds to buy yet. I want to grow a big cutting garden. I love having vases full of flowers all season long.

I just received my organic vegetable seeds and starter kit in the mail over the weekend. I can't wait to get them going next week too! Best of luck on growing good, strong plants.

Walmart got their 20cent seeds in, so I bought a lot. I will start some on heating pads in my spare room, and when they come up I will put them under grow lights in there. When it warms up some, they go into the hoop house outside (unheated greenhouse). My garden is all raised beds, since I live in Stone County (aptly named).

I bought a few heating pads at the 2nd hand store for next to nothing and take off the cloth cover. I turn them to medium or low and put my seedling trays on them to sprout.

I made my hoop house from a cinderblock base. I used PVC pipe for the hoops, and covered it in corregated clear plastic panels. I used screws to affix the panels to the hoops. I also tied the panels down with wire, some chicken wire, and whatever I had on hand so it won't blow away in high winds. It isn't pretty, but it does the job and wasn't too expensive.

Siobhan - YIKES!!! That's insanely cold. I'm not jealous of that weather!
It's still cold here, but will warm up in 4-6 weeks or so when I'm ready to plant. Woo!

Congrats on the sprouting broccoli. My hubby started seeds in the hot house a couple of days ago. Hurry Spring!

I'm dreaming of a seeded basement!!! It was 11 degrees here today and all I can think of is keeping space open to start my seeds, but it won't be soon enough for me. I'm going to start a quilting project to keep me busy so I don't start them too soon.

God bless,

Judy

I'm still weeks away from starting seeds. It was -14 degrees here this morning. :(
Your sprouts are lovely though! I will live vicariously through your starts :)
