I have searched and not found anything about garden designing for townhouses in the Midwest. I want to redo the landscaping in our front entrance and back yard. Can anyone suggest a book or internet link for me?

Thanks,
Dawn in IL

Thank you everyone for the superb suggestions and books. I will see if my library has any of them. As for writing a book, well, I can testify that here in the Midwest one is very much needed!

Thanks to Windy Pines for letting me know I had a few answers to my question!

Maybe the lack of information will inspire a farm girl to write a book about it?

It all comes back to the ground!

Here are a few of my favorite books for small space garden design. I'm in the Seattle area so the plant materials may need to be adjusted, but the ideas on use of space, circulation, etc are still worth a look:

Small Gardens - John Brookes

Fresh Food From Small Spaces - RJ Ruppenthal

Big Ideas for Small Northwest Gardens - Marty Wingate

Big Gardens in Small Spaces - Martyn Cox

Big Ideas for Small Gardens - Dave Egbert & Emily Young

Despite the increasing number of people now living in townhomes, condominiums, apartments and small residential lots across our country there is a real dearth in reading materials that address design in these types of spaces.

Good luck with your garden renovation project!

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

Do keyword searches on pinterest and google for patio, balcony and small space gardening. Also on amazon for books. There's a lot of great info out there!
I'm in an apt with a medium size balcony. There's some fun info out there for container and small space gardening!

Enjoy and have fun!

Hope you find something Dawn. Maybe doing small changes to start and gradually add on to them.
