Does any one know what kind of flower this is? We've gone through two floods, ever since, I find these beautiful looking flowers growing in the lake or even in the fence areas of the yard. This flower is so pretty, I just have no idea what it is.
I know before the last flood, one of my neighbors had his yard done by this fancy gardener.
I do believe that is where all these flowers are coming from.

I think Connie is correct that the plant may be in the Hibiscus/Malvaceae family based on the the single pistil in the center of Marly's flower. It is definitely not a Daylily because there would have to be a pistil and multiple stamens in the center of it for it to be a member of the Lily/Lilaceae family. Without being able to see the leaves and the form of the plant it's hard to identify.
Marly...see my earlier post on the first page...you do not have a pot plant.

OK ladies, someone emailed me pointing out that the plant to the left center could be a POT plant.
I have NO idea, I don't know what a POT plant looks like. Maybe that's why the alligators that live in the lake are so aggressive. LOL

I agree with Tina . . I think it is a day lily. I have bunches that are that configuration but a different color.

Connie...I love Hybiscus but that flower Marly is talking about looks too pointy petaled
to be a Hybiscus. The have very rounded petals.
I don't think it is a day lily either...but I don't know exactly what it is.

Yes mam! You do that! you will be glad you did!! I have a white one too!! Here's a pic. my friend brought me mine, just a handful in a milk jug of water and I planted them in April and they have grown about 5 times the size since then! I watered with Miracle grow just once since April!

It is a Hardy Hibiscus! Nothing like the Tropical one, that you get at Garden centers, That last only 1 season,These come back every year!!! Here is a pic of mine,from 1 week ago. One of my older friends shared some with me this year! My granny had these growing everywhere in her yard, in the 1960's when I was a little girl. They are Beautiful! So easy to transplant and grow, if over watered the leaves turn yellow.

each flower that blooms (and as the plant get larger/more mature thru the years it will have on going blooms over the season), only lasts one day, i.e. "day lily"...they come in several solid colore, as well as bi-colors, I love them, easy to grow anywhere, when the flowers stop, turn yellow and die back, you can dig up the clump and transplant, when the clump gets real big, you can also divide it into several smaller clumps to spread the joy...

My dear Friend, I do believe you may be right! The neighbors in question did go to the Day Lily Festival every year and come back with several of them.
HOWEVER, question first? Are they called Day Lilies because they bloom for one day? I have no idea. Anywho.... this flower is in continual bloom.

There is a cypress tree on the island, and palmetto's. I looked again, but I think it's the cat tails everyone is wondering about. When it dries up outside, I'll take another picture and post it.

Marly, can you get a photo of the leaves and the base of the plant? I can't tell from the photo if it is a single stem like a tulip or lily bulb or if it is a bloom on a larger plant or vine. That might help to narrow down which plant family it is. It sure is a beautiful flower.
By the way the plant in the background has a complex leaf so it definitely is not what others have suggested.

It looks very tropical, like a hybiscis flower. As for the plant behind it, if you try to use it for anything other than rope you will be sorly disapointed.

Ha! I agree and perhaps the red flower was planted as a marker like in X marks the spot. The flower looks like some kind of a tulip to me. I will search the internet to see if I can come up with a match. The flower is very pretty.

It is a very pretty flower; but, I don't know what it is either. I do agree with Kris though..there is something about that plant behind the flower. hmmmm.

The flower is on a island in the lake behind the house. I would go dig it up, but I need someone to watch for alligators. LOL
There were three of those flowers, but I only see one now. I love the red color.
