My mother just bought me a small Honda tiller and I love it. It uses unleaded gas, no mixing like with other tillers and it's easy to use. Took me a while to figure it out, as I hate reading manuals. We got it at Home Depot and it was a little pricey at $350. The Cub Cadet is $300, but not having to do the gas mixing is worth the $50 difference to me.

Janet, I am in North Carolina and it's been very warm here. It was almost 90 degrees today. In May we can start planting just about anything. I've always been told that as long as the ground is warm that it's okay to plant. Of course, there are those veggies like potatoes and peas that can be planted before then.

Marly, I'm going slow with the tomatoes I started inside. I planted two in the garden, but only one survived. I have a few more sitting on my front porch and will wait a while before planting those. I purchased six organic tomato plants at Whole Foods and plan on sticking them in the ground this weekend. My sweet pepper seedlings are doing great in the garden. Thanks for the encouraging words and I'll do what you said --- replant if need be. I really am loving my little tiller.

Karen: It sounds like you had fun with your new tiller today. Great!! Don't give up on your plants just yet. If they aren't looking too good, now is the time to start more.

What a nice gift to get!!! One that will be well used, I am sure. Where do you live that your garden is coming up already? We cannot plant veggies here for another month, but I did get my potaotes planted, hopefully not too soon.

Marly,

My husband worked up the garden with the tractor and ran runs, but he's a city boy and never gets it quite right. He uses the big tiller sometimes, but it just doesn't do the job. I actually reworked what he'd done and set about making some straight rows. I planted 129 hills of potatoes a few weeks back and lots are coming up. Also planted green peas that are doing well. The verdict is out on the radishes, carrots, and greens. I took a few of the seedlings I started out to the garden today and will see what happens. This is the first time I started plants inside (tomato, eggplant, and sweet pepper) and I'm not having much luck. I really did have fun using my little tiller today and would highly recommend a Honda to anyone who's thinking of purchasing one.
