I need your opinions.

Years ago I was a religious reader of Organic Gardening magazine. I could hardly wait for it to be delivered! We got lots of ideas and tips for managing our garden, and always got lots of produce.

I quit subscribing when I quit gardening so heavily. Then I heard that they had ceased publication. I grieved a bit, because I always thought I might garden extensively again.

Imagine my surprise when I found the Organic Gardening available again! Same publisher, too!

But it was an inexpensive magazine when I used to read it. And it was a monthly magazine. Now they publish every other month, and the subscription rate is surprisingly high, at $23.96 a month.

Does anyone subscribe? Is it good, or do you find something you like better? I really miss that magazine, at least the way it used to be; it was like having a gardening coach and cheerleader all rolled into one.

Your thoughts?

Mary Ann -- it will probably be fine. I agree with Bridge. All magazines go through cycles. That's why I don't subscribe to many and buy them at the news stand. Then if I don't think I'll like it I don't get it. I had never seen Mother Earth News until I got some from the library so I have nothing to compare too. I really like it so far.

I haven't subscribed to Organic Gardening before, so I don't know about it, but, Bridge, thanks, also for the magazine link! Soooooo cool!!!

XOXO, Libbie

It by far isn't the best or my favorite. But for such a good price I subscibe.
Some of the issues I am disappointed, but then comes along one that I just love!! I think most mags are like that. You can't really expect every issue to suit everyones taste.

Well, I may end up regretting getting three years' worth, but years ago I didn't get along much with Mother Earth News. Seemed like a lot of issues on what to make out of an old washing machine motor. Or it was in the late 70's and early 80's. Sometimes it was a fun read, though.

Geez, I hope the OG isn't a disappointment. I subscribed mainly in the 80's and early 90's. What was that one that came later? Something like Organic Life? I skimmed through that one at the bookstore and just laughed. It was so not me.

Oh well; it wasn't that much money, but I sure hate waste.

I used to subscribe to Organic Gardening. When Mike left as editor the magazine just changed so much that I quit taking it. I have to agree with Shirley -- it's nothing like it used to be. I take Mother Earth News and feel I get lots more for my money. Organic gardening tips plus lots more. And the subscription price is very reasonable.

Organic gardening is nothing like the issues that they used to have.
Its nothing, Im so dissapointed with what they did to it, theres just hardly anything in it any more and is ads and very small.
I used to be waiting at the mailbox for it, now I wouldnt even walk across the street for it.
They do sell it at book stores like Borders and Barns and Nobel

Thanks again, Bridge! I ordered three years of OG, and also picked up Country Home and some old house magazine. (I have an ooooolllddd house!) That was a substantial savings!

Back in the early 90's we ordered Organic gardener and really loved it . all the sudden they made changes in the editor , look of the magizine and there were more advertisements. The biggest problem that even though there were more ads the price increased and the size decreased. Each issue was less pages and with all the ads there was not much left of the magazine. so we cancled our subscription. They may have improved it since. You may want to check before paying for a year (unless you can get it for a really low price like Brigette mentioned)

I think the $23.96 is the cost for a year subscription (6 issues), at least that's what it says on their website.

I love this magazine! I ordered it through my neices school fundraiser because it looked like an interesting one and it sure was. It's got a lot of great ideas and information.
