Posted - Feb 27 2012 : 7:15:03 PM I think I will order some heirloom seeds in the next few weeks. I saved from from last year but not many. And a friend has a greenhouse and grows lots of heirloom tomatoes and peppers. I'll get most of those from her. I had really good luck with her red bell peppers last year. The darn chickens liked them a little too much too. I guess I'll check out Lowes too.

Posted - Feb 26 2012 : 6:00:12 PM I will have to check out Lowes for the seeds of change. I looked at Home Depot yesterday and our had a very bland choice of seeds. I usually buy my plants from a local owned nursery. I will have to call them tomorrow and see if they have any kale plants in yet. I worked awhile today picking up sticks in backyard. The neighbors tree makes such a mess in my yard

Posted - Feb 26 2012 : 10:21:42 AM Glad to hear you had such good luck, Nicole! I'll have to checks out Lowe's! Our Home Depot is close, and the Lowe's is much farther away, but after your recommendation, I'm going to go the extra distance and check it out.

Posted - Feb 24 2012 : 09:43:12 AM Good gardening luck this year, Nicole. Lowe's became my favorite garden supply store two years ago. I got fantastic marked down plants almost as soon as the season started and it just got better and better. I had a hard time keeping up with planting all my marked down bargains! :)

Posted - Feb 24 2012 : 09:01:03 AM @Melina, Thank you for recommending Lowes! I went there yesterday and had no need to go anywhere else. While I did not see the seeds you suggested, I did find a whole wall of all Organic seeds! Woo-Hoo! I was in hog heaven.
Farmgirls, the selection was wonderful, and the prices for the organic seeds were not a huge difference to the conventional version. Bought all kinds of goodies for the garden, as well as organic seed starting dirt. Can't wait. Although, Mother Nature is mean. Got six inches of snow today. Boo!
@Suzanne, yes, last year was a major disappointment, but I've got the thrill of a new garden this year! :)
Oh! And I also got a Vintage-looking red glass hummingbird feeder. So cute and "farmgirlish"!
Hugs!

Posted - Feb 23 2012 : 2:28:36 PM I'm excited, too! Have you checked www.cooksgarden.com? They sell mostly organic plants and seeds (but be careful, some of theirs aren't, so if you prefer organic ones, select those specifically labeled as such). I've ordered from them before and their stuff has always worked well for me.
I hope you find great things for your garden. Sorry so much was destroyed by the hurricane, but beginning with a clean slate could be fun (I try to look on the bright side, even in rough situations - doesn't always work, but I try!)

Posted - Feb 23 2012 : 08:17:13 AM Don't know if you have a Lowe's near you, but I found a Seeds of Change display there last week. I was thrilled because I usually pay more in shipping than I do for the seeds when I order online. If you don't know the company, they are a New Mexico-based company that sells heirloom seeds and does great work in the community.
