Anybody else grow Kangaroo Paws? These delightful flowers(?) grow up here on the coast of Northern CA but also down in heat of Redlands where my sister lives. They are perennial, fuzzy and fun to add to bouquets. Come in velvet red, orange and yellow--sorry picture so dark, haven't learned how to get definition inside yet....anyway, you get the idea!

Ninon,

Thanks for sharing! Kangaroo Paws are so neat. I first was introduced to them about 20 years ago when doing floral design. I was always excited when we open up a box from the wholesaler to find those, and ginger too!

They still have blooms, we will cut them back when it gets too rainy, I bet within a month. They begin to pop back up and by mid summer are going full tilt.

I have not tried to propagate or dry, but I googled them: they are perennial, a rhizome so you can separate them and they can be sprouted from seed. They make a good dried flower as they are stick like with leathery flowers. Sounds like some places that are cooler have them indoors, but they like dry sandy soil and heat, maybe perfect for your neck of the woods...

those do look fantastic, very unique...
do they dry well, or just wilt?
how do you propagate these plants?

Thanks all! I just had to share, I just love these silly things, I had never heard or seen them before last year! I wish I had little children around to show them to, can you imagine their wonder--kind of like sheeps ears (that green plant that is so soft to pat)...and ps Trish maybe someday I will post a picture of my sweetie and I when we were younger and one of us had more hair...

I love where you live. I love where you live so much, I might cry. So temperate. So wonderful. So many hippies.
