I am with the friends group at my local library and I would like to have a plant exchange. That being said I have never been to one and am not sure how one 'fairly' works. I have looked on line at fliers and such from other organizations but still do not have a real good feel for how to go about it all. We are having our used book sale during our towns annual blueberry festival (big deal) and it brings LOTS of people in to and through town. I would like to have fliers ready for people then and have the swap mid september. After all this...I am wondering if any of you have helped put on a swap or have participated in one and would be will to share your experiences with me. I would be very grateful to say the least. I get that people bring in plants and people hopefully go home with plants I am just not sure how. If I bring in a trunk full of plants and my neighbor brings in 2 hosta plants can she leave with as many plants as I might? Thank you so much for any and all help :-)

Thank you so much for responding. Your input was just what I wanted. I know what you liked about the swap and what you would like to see done diffferently. I like the idea of drawing a number..maybe as you enter the swap? I had just thought about having raffle tickets with numbers on the back. But who knows if everyone can hold onto the ticket? I have read alot of different swap directions and such on line but it is not the same as hearing about some one's experiences. I am not sure how many will turn up and what will be brought but I most certainly want it to be fun and pleasant. I would also like it to sort of set itself up for next year. I hope to hear from other people what they might like to see/get out of a swap...fingers crossed. Thanks again

I have been involved with one and think it could use some tweaking. Everyone brings in plants and set them on tables such as veggies, fruits and flowers all together. When the whistle blows everyone is allowed to grab 4 plants the 1st go around. Then it is done again till they are all gone. Not sure I like this as some folks get pretty agressive. I would suggest if you have a small group to draw numbers. The number one person picks a plant, number two and so forth. Then you start over. I think this is a little fairer. Might have each person draw a card from a deck. Then with a second deck call out cards. When every one gets a choice then shuffle cards and go again. Literaly the luck of the draw! Good luck and have fun
