There is a little clearing up in the north woods (north of the house of course) we have a little shade/rock garden. It's called Amandalena's Garden by all of the family. Nineteen yrs. ago my second oldest gd passed away at 18 mos. due to a stroke following complications at birth. Anyway, my way to get through that was to spend a lot of time in the woods, slinging tears and rocks. I must say, it was the prettiest garden. All this time later..if the weather is as rainy as it is this year..her garden is a little neglected. Sad, but unseen by anyone but family. I was about to put on boots to go out and trim out raspberry bushes and thin out day lilies..when my nephew reported that he was walking the trail to the garden and stopped about 5 feet from a red fox. They just stared at each other. Then nephew heard some mewing. So we suspect pups back in the rocks. I know there is a whole back there that would make a perfect den. This morning DH and I were looking out the bedroom window and there were 2 adult fox sitting in the yard. What a sight! He ran to get the camera. Luckily, we have no chickens. Nor do the neighbors have chickens. I guess we will let the garden go til winter this year. Amandalena would just love it, I'll bet! Just wanted to share.

I just posted on another topic about those awful critters that are messing with our gardens. Then I read the beautiful post on this topic. Seems like things balance out. Hopefully for the good. Sorry for your losses farmgals. I too, have a granddaughter waiting for me. She was our first grandchild, still born 35 years ago.

if you ever have the chance to just sit and enjoy watching your fox family, and you see one or more with that almost smile on their face and they look like they are being gently stroked by unseen little hands, you know its your sweet little Granddaughter...

What a beautiful story and what a blessing to have these beautiful creatures pick your garden for their family! Enjoy them while they are there....i'm sure your granddaughter would be thrilled! |

What a wonderful thing to do, Judith. Thanks so much for sharing about your grandbaby. And what a greta way to remember her. I love her name too. I would love to see the garden. Souns very peaceful. No wonder the fox family likes it there. Just be careful.

Well, this post just made me all teary. I'm so sorry for your loss of that lovely wee child, but her spirit is there, each and every day, welcoming the children of Mother Nature. The garden is truly a blessing.

I love your comments ladies. And, feel my farmgirl hug Heather. Today the adult foxes are just roaming around the yard like they own it. I guess they do.

How neat. I lost twin boys and the only way I could make it through was by dreaming of the garden I would make for them. (I was living in the second largest co-op in the world at the time in NYC no garden to be had!) Just recently I went to the garden store with my father and found the perfect garden ornament for them, cement baby boys hugging each other. Perfection!
I am just seeing those baby foxes in my minds eye, awesome. I love nature, there is a scripture that says you can see God in his creation (nature) and I surely do each and every time I look at his work. I can't wait till I can garden with my baby boys some day...when we are reunited again. And maybe catch a view of some baby fox.....

A perfect peaceful and safe place for the vixen to have her kits, and she knew it, your precious grandbabys spirit is there, welcomeing all new life into this world...
