Posted - Jun 14 2011 : 10:54:54 AM I just wanted to share my latest gardening experiment with you!
Read about it http://afarminmyheart.blogspot.com/2011/05/growing-potatoes-in-reusable-shopping.html
The above picture is after they reached 8 inches, and I added more dirt. As they grow, I will add more dirt and hopefully little potatoes will start to grow along the buried stems.
Believe me, this was way way cheaper than buying two grow bags!

Posted - Aug 11 2011 : 09:14:59 AM I think any container that will hold dirt and drain water will work, potatoes just want to grow! I really neglected mine in the shopping bags, bugs, drought no fertilizer, but guess what, I've got little potatoes growing in there!

Posted - Jun 14 2011 : 11:34:15 AM Merry, those look great! I am kind of doing something similar. Our old muck buckets were useless as the handles had torn of & the platic around them was ruined. I had hubby drill holes in the bottom for drainage, & added straw, potatoes & as they grow, more straw. I will have to see how it goes. |
