Posted - Jun 13 2011 : 5:45:27 PM Anyone ever use a kiddie pool for an herb garden? A friend of mine had this idea and it seems to make sense...poke some hole, add stones, dirt, plants...seems like a decent idea---it could be small and on a table top for ease...it sounds good to me, but is there something I am missing??

The only one I have had a problem with is my peppermint. It dies back in the baking heat of Texas, and springs back to life when some cooler weather hits. Rosemary, however, is a Mediteranean herb and loves dry and hot1 We plant them for hedges here. |

Posted - Jun 14 2011 : 2:14:04 PM When I started container gardening, I put an add up on craigslist asking for the pots people had leftover from planting trees. I ended up with 6 LARGE pots and then some, and they're so sturdy I still have most of them 5 years later.

Posted - Jun 13 2011 : 8:14:09 PM I got an old cattle feeding trough that's about 12' long and filled with dirt and put herbs in it. I love it. It's up high so I don't have to bend over. I had to put wire fence over it to keep chickens out. Now I have a clemetis vine growing on the fence. It's real pretty though. And it drains good too.
A kiddie pool would be a great place for an herb garden.

Posted - Jun 13 2011 : 7:36:20 PM I am using the big rubber maid containers for all my gardening this year since we live in military housing and have nowhere to plant. I used to use big pots, but they are so expensive! I would think a kiddie pool would work, just might be hard to move, which is why I love my containers.

Posted - Jun 13 2011 : 6:25:43 PM I had a kiddie pool that I used a few years ago to grow banana trees in, did pretty well too. I don't see why it wouldn't work for herbs, rubbermaid containers work well for herbs too.
