Anyone ever use a kiddie pool for an herb garden? A friend of mine had this idea and it seems to make sense...poke some hole, add stones, dirt, plants...seems like a decent idea---it could be small and on a table top for ease...it sounds good to me, but is there something I am missing??

A kiddie pool is great for this and so much more...They also make good pet water dishes and cooling pools for those hot summer days. Herbs practically beg to be grown and do really well.
The only one I have had a problem with is my peppermint. It dies back in the baking heat of Texas, and springs back to life when some cooler weather hits. Rosemary, however, is a Mediteranean herb and loves dry and hot1 We plant them for hedges here. |

When I started container gardening, I put an add up on craigslist asking for the pots people had leftover from planting trees. I ended up with 6 LARGE pots and then some, and they're so sturdy I still have most of them 5 years later.

I got an old cattle feeding trough that's about 12' long and filled with dirt and put herbs in it. I love it. It's up high so I don't have to bend over. I had to put wire fence over it to keep chickens out. Now I have a clemetis vine growing on the fence. It's real pretty though. And it drains good too.
A kiddie pool would be a great place for an herb garden.

I am using the big rubber maid containers for all my gardening this year since we live in military housing and have nowhere to plant. I used to use big pots, but they are so expensive! I would think a kiddie pool would work, just might be hard to move, which is why I love my containers.

I had a kiddie pool that I used a few years ago to grow banana trees in, did pretty well too. I don't see why it wouldn't work for herbs, rubbermaid containers work well for herbs too.
